Zambales vice gov bet shot dead
NOT ELECTION-RELATED
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A police official on Monday said the murder of a candidate for vice governor in Zambales province on Sunday was not election-related.
Citing results of a two-day investigation, Senior Supt. Rafael Santiago, Zambales police director, said the killing of Willie Viloria in Cabangan town, Zambales, was most likely due to a conflict on a mining-related business transaction.
Viloria was running for vice governor as a candidate of the Alpha Omega 9K Party.
“Definitely, this death is not due to the elections,” Santiago said when reached through his mobile phone at 7 p.m. Monday.
In November last year, Viloria filed a case for frustrated murder after he survived a slay attempt by a person to whom he sold his right to a mining concession, Santiago said.
He said Viloria was playing with his two children at the terrace of their house in Cabangan at 10:45 a.m. Sunday when a man, accompanied by a lookout, shot and killed him.
